I'm so glad you put photos of the Scorched Earth Special, that's astounding...will you be there when she gets back? How will we know her reaction?!
Her reaction will be to blame Argh, or failing that whoever is either most convenient or least responsible.
I know I cannot look after plants sometimes you just have to admit defeat. Why not replace it with a healthly looking plant of the same kind for her return let her think she has cured this one ok so you will be sacrafing another plant but at least it will give her a new purpose in life
